Anum was the first angel, sent from Heaven to watch over the world but instead with his right hand he stole Vril and created the Ogdru Jahad from mud.

Anum later used his right hand to seal the Ogdru Jahad away but his fellow angels feared him and tore him into pieces which were all destroyed except for his right hand which would later become Hellboy's.
